Some boxes are wrapped for a reason. This one seems to have wrapped itself, just for the fun of it.
Curly maple forms the box, bright and full of motion. The grain catches light and tosses it around like a thought that flickers and lingers before drifting away. The ribbon is a five-stripe parade: curly maple in the center, framed by stripes of mahogany, with walnut running along the outside edges. It’s not subtle. It doesn’t try to blend in. It means to be seen.
The ribbon sits proudly outside the box, not recessed or hidden, but raised and sure of itself. The bow lifts high above the surface, like it’s celebrating something. Maybe it’s your birthday. Maybe it’s just Tuesday. It doesn’t really matter. The point is joy.
Tiny walnut feet lift the box just enough to cast a shadow, separating it slightly from whatever surface it rests on. The effect is gentle but deliberate.
You might tilt your head trying to figure out how the ribbon and bow were made. Or you might not. You might just smile. That would be enough.
This box is tied tightly, but it’s not hiding anything.
It’s simply holding the moment.
